Racing beer is Mikkeller's only non-alcoholic lager although it certainly isn't a traditional lager. Brewed with Mikkeller's own special yeast, Mikkellensis, it has the hallmark initial aroma and taste of their other beers and carries an initial sweetness, as you come to expect from Mikkeller beers. That sweetness owes itself to the brewing method and the Mikkellensis yeast which allow the flavour (and sugar) to develop without alcohol forming; this means Mikkeller doesn't have to heat or pressurise the beer afterwards to take the alcohol out, as many alcohol-free beers do. The initial sweetness gives way to extra bitterness and lager taste at the end and is super refreshing as you'd expect for a beer brewed for Mikkeller's Running Club.
If you don't like Mikkeller's other beers, such as Weird Weather, or you only want a traditional, crisp lager you're unlikely to be suddenly converted by this beer. It is very much a hybrid between their other beers and a lager. However, if you're a Mikkeller fan or prefer lager but have never tried their beers before, give this a go. As usual with Mikkeller, it is exceptional.
