Belgium is one of the beer capitals of the world, home to many unique and traditional styles of beer, such as the Tripel and Blond. Most Belgian breweries are fairly traditional but Brussels Beer Project, founded in 2013, aims to break that mould with a very modern style that is multicultural and vibrant. They were the first brewery in the world to create a beer from leftover bread, which went on to inspire TOAST ale in the UK.
Pico Bello is BBP's first non-alcoholic offering and is categorised as a hazy / New England IPA with fruity aroma, a touch of bitterness and some welcomer acidity. We found the beer pours pretty clear with a small amount of haze and the aroma to be lots of citrus fruit: lemon, lime and melon. On the taste, the dominating characteristic was citrusy fruits and a nice tartness to it that makes you want to take another sip. It certainly doesn't have much sweetness but we couldn't find much bitterness either. Perhaps closer to a sour than an IPA and closest to a less sweet version of Mikkeller's Mikkeller's Henry & His Science. Perfect for a summer's day.
