The SOLO is West Berkshire Brewery’s first alcohol-free beer. As you’d expect with a pale ale it is light in colour and perhaps it’s only real blemish comes right at the start – it doesn’t keep much of a head. If you get past that, though, this is a very good beer. It has tropical hints on the nose but somehow you don’t expect a great deal of sweetness to it. There’s a decent amount of hops in there and it is a really smooth taste. Curiously at the end at hints of charcoal which aren’t unpleasant and give real interest to the end of the beer. Whilst not a ‘best bitter’ by any stretch we think this beer will appeal to those that like a more English-style, sessionable beer than some of the US-influenced variants of alcohol-free out there.
